New Spring Floral Mixed Media Painting on 10x10 inch canvas
As the seasons have changed from winter to spring and now we’re getting even closer to summer, it’s been so peaceful and inspiring to watch different flowers bloom this year. It seems as though there’s a new one blooming (and another fading) each week and I have found it so meaningful to take time to observe and appreciate each one.
Gathering up whatever is in bloom in our yard to create a different bouquet for my studio each week has been such an inspiration to my practice of creating these new works.
Just as I’ve enjoyed seeing what new blooms emerge each week outside my studio window, I’ve practiced letting the flowers emerge and bloom onto my painting surfaces, too. Starting with a quick sketch and building up layers, these paintings have required a thoughtful yet playful process.
I’ve chosen to be more mindful of my color choices, mixing up more unique tones and shades to create my own whimsical gardens. The layers are made up of a combination of materials including acrylic paint, chalk pastels, oil pastels, and more.
This painting in particular is 10x10 inches on canvas. Protected with semi-gloss varnish and signed on the back. The 3/4 inch sides have been painted to create a unique matching look with the painting.
A process photo has been added so you can see how this painting emerged. What's extra special about this painting? It was created outside in the gorgeous sunshine at the beautiful Jump Off Rock. I gathered up my supplies to paint somewhere new and enjoyed every second of it while creating this original.
Sure to fill your home with joy, playfulness, renewal, and layers of inspiration!
