About Bethany Joy Art

Joyful, colorful painting is at the heart of Bethany Joy Art. From flowers and abstracts to beach scenes, mountain landscapes, and inspirational quotes, each painting unfolds in vibrant layers of color and feeling. Every piece is created to bring joy, lightness, and a sense of color into everyday life.

Bethany's creative process is playful and intuitive, built through layering, experimentation, and instinct. Acrylic paint is Bethany's primary medium, often expanded with watercolor, pastels, collage, and unexpected textures that add depth and movement. Every painting evolves over time until it feels balanced, alive, and full of energy.

Alongside painting, Bethany is a published author of Happy Flower Painting for Beginners and the founder of the Bethany Joy Art design studio. Her work has been licensed nationally through MHS Licensing and has appeared with brands such as Hobby Lobby, Trader Joe’s, and others that bring art into everyday life.

Bethany accepts commissioned paintings, teaches painting workshops, travels for pop-up art markets and events, and creates mural work for homes, businesses, and community spaces.

In addition to fine art, Bethany works as a freelance creative designer offering social media management, website design, and graphic design for small businesses and creative brands. Her work in this space focuses on thoughtful visual storytelling that helps other creatives and businesses bring their vision to life.

She lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina with her husband and dogs, where nature always finds its way back into her palette and inspiration.

Every piece is created with gratitude and the hope that it brings a sense of color, joy, and beauty into the spaces it lives in.

Want to know more? Here's a little history on how I got started:

Growing up, I would spend hours coloring, painting, and making crafts from anything I could find.  I just loved to create, and still do!

Creating beautiful art has always been a passion of mine, however, I didn't begin studying fine art seriously until college.  I attended Brevard College with the intentions of becoming a photographer, however, I ended up falling in love with painting all over again instead.

I concentrated on painting as my major and obtained my K-12 Art teacher license as well as my BA degree in Fine Art.  Working on my teacher license required me to get to know a little bit about all different types of fine art- photography, sculpture, ceramics, graphic design, and art history in addition to painting which proves to be very useful!

In addition to finding my true passion for painting at Brevard College, I also was blessed to have met my amazing husband at BC as well. With his support as well as all of my family and friends, I am able to pursue my passions and fill the world with my art!
